Can You Dig It?

A bit about the founder of “Can you dig it?”

“Growing up in the canyons above Sunset Blvd., in Los Angeles, the force of the 60's culture was an integral part of my childhood. My mom was a self-admitted health food nut and integrated many of the eclectic selections available from various health food stores and restaurants. For those of you that don't remember, many of the health food offerings in those days were but a small evolutionary step from the mulch offerings of a wood chipper. If my memory serves me right, at my house, a loaf of lunch bread weighed as much as my little sister. I remember lunches at school, watching my lucky friends eating freely of their delicious Wonder Bread sandwiches as I sat at the lunch bench, picking the sticks and stems from my teeth wishing that I were them. Why- oh- why was my Mom so weird? The worst of all though, was my mom trying to convince me that carob was the "new chocolate". Oh come on, even a kid knows that carob is carob, but chocolate, is well, mmm, chocolate.

But, as we now know, my mom and those other health food hippies were onto something. Maybe the taste technology wasn't there yet, but the concept and passion of those visionaries have proven to be essential. Good, clean, nutritious food, taking care of our earth, farming and therefore eating without poisons is now main stream.

I now admittedly have hitched a ride to my mom's little green wagon, and though I'm grateful that so many companies have had such success in creating products that care for our environment as well as our bodies, I'm even more grateful that they've taken our taste buds into consideration.

I now admittedly have hitched a ride to my mom's little green wagon, and though I'm grateful that so many companies have had such success in creating products that care for our environment as well as our bodies, I'm even more grateful that they've taken our taste buds into consideration.

Along the way we have found that not only eating well is important, but there is so much more that we can do to live a healthy life. I've found the joy of organic gardening and have learned so much about the harmful contaminants used in farming practices. Through this journey and in search of clothing that would represent earth, labor and health friendly practices, I have created a line of clothing that celebrates and embraces this way of life. CAN YOU DIG IT? is a company that has grown from my passion. What began as an adult line of garden shirts has now grown into a clothing company that includes a wonderful children's line! Fun designs and great colors, encouraging and playful sayings are printed on high quality, soft, organic cotton shirts.”

Stephanie and her three now-grown children happily live in Ojai, California, each pursuing their dreams and affecting their world for a better tomorrow.
